Participants in a human rights training workshop received knowledge and information on five rights-related issues. The first day of the workshop witnessed highlighting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with its 30 items, while the second day of the workshop witnessed the theme of minority rights in Iraq and the importance of promoting these rights and finding the foundations of governmental and social action to implement away from the policies of containment and marginalization,
The third day of the workshop included addressing the rights of people with disabilities under the International Convention of 2006 and Iraqi Law No. 38 of 2013, and the opportunities that should be provided to implement what is stated in these two texts of care, qualify, integration, and avoid negative discrimination.
The fourth day was devoted to the Rights of Women and the injustices affecting and how to confront the violence exposed to, while the fifth day was devoted to the Rights of Children.
The workshop was held at the headquarters of Al-Mahaba Kindergarten in Basra and opened on Thursday, February 1, 2024, with the participation of twenty-five female and male workers in the teaching and educational field. The workshop’s agenda included intensive lectures given by Mrs. Pascale and Mr. William Warda within a framework of discussions and constructive dialogue to shed light on the merits of the texts concerning these rights, with an emphasis on the importance of having working keys to implement them comprehensively and not through a selective approach, because any derogation of parts of these rights represents a violation of all of them.
It is noteworthy that the workshop continues within the framework of the Universality of Rights project, in which Mr. William Warda is responsible for general coordination within the framework of the work of the Hammurabi Organization and is being implemented in Baghdad and Basra under the leadership of the John Paul II Foundation (FGPII) and with the support of the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development.
