Under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, Mrs. Pascal Warda head of Hammurabi Human Rights Organization (HHRO) and former Minister of Migration and Displaced, member of Iraqi Women's Network, participated in the conference on the ratification of the plan to implement the joint statement between the Republic of Iraq and the United Nations to prevent and respond to sexual abuse related to conflict.
The conference was held on 5th March 2018 in Baghdad where the curriculum included a speech by Dr. Mahdi Al-Alaq Secretary General of the Council of Ministers and a panel discussion on the joint statement to prevent and respond to sexual abuse, in which Dr. Ibtisam Aziz participated in the high-level contact and coordination on sexual abuse related to conflicts at the federal level , Mrs. Amel Jalal High-level contact and coordination on sexual abuse related to conflicts at the level of Kurdistan Region, Mrs. Ayda Muaima Senior Advisor for the Protection of Women in UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and Mrs. Emmanuel Kumbankt of the Special Representative Office on Conflict related sexual abuse, Mr. Ramanathan Balakrishnan representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Iraq (UNFPA), Humanitarian Coordinator and authorized General Coordinator. The final speech was by Pramila Batern the Special Representative in charge of sexual abuse related to conflicts, who continued a special session with representatives of civil society and had a constructive dialogue on sexual abuse against women and the means to restore her rights.
Due to time shortage of the panel discussion and before starting the press conference, Mrs Warda speech with Mrs. Pramila was on the need to urge the government to exercise transitional justice for Christian and Yazidi victims of ISIS and how to deal the dire consequences.
Head of Hammurabi Human Rights Organization also stressed on the great responsibilities of civil society organizations in this field, confirming that HHRO is devoting more attention and diagnosis to this very sensitive subject and express keen to include in organization reports.
