· Hammurabi Human Rights Organization in cooperation with Minority Rights Group International held a training workshop on Thursday 12/May/2016
· The workshop aims to train a number of intellectuals, activists and representatives of different religious and ethnical components of the Iraqi society on monitoring, documenting and reporting on human rights violations.
Today was the first day of the 3 days training workshop, it began with an introduction by Mr. William Warda, HHROs Public Relations Officer and the director of training program, stressing the importance of documenting human rights violations and how documenting and exposing such violations could prevent the escalation of the aggression while confirming that violations are being committed on a daily basis in Iraq, adding that violations documented by unqualified people could do more harm than good.
Following that, Mr. Khidher Domle, Member of Peace building Center in University of Duhok and Expert & Trainer in Media and Minority, gave a brief explanation about the goals and activities of the workshop, then began his first lecture which was an introduction into concepts of minorities rights in an international perspective.
Mr. Domle stressed the need to detach ourselves from any affiliation, whether religious, ethnical, national ... etc, in order to form our judgments based on the existing facts, adding that it is very important when monitoring a violation to try to lure the opposite side rather than encountering them.
This was followed by a number of exercises and activities which gave a chance for the 24 participants to talk about different issues and human rights violations such as the Turkish semi regular airstrikes in Iraqi territories, the land confiscation in the town of Nahla, the National Identity Card Law with the Article 26 which violates the rights of non Muslim minorities, the flagrant violations committed by the Islamic State against Yazidies, Christians ... etc.
HHRO has been to document and report on human rights violations in Iraq through a network of volunteers and activists, this is in addition to holding numerous workshops on related subjects, and having a relief program aiming to alleviate the suffering of displaced and financially struggling families.
