Adel Saad, Media Advisor of Hammurabi Human Rights Organization (HHRO) participated in the meeting of experts and advisors on the transition to inclusive governance in Arab countries.
The meeting was held on Thursday 21/6/2018 in Beirut Lebanon under the supervision and administration of the Institute of Social Justice and Conflict Resolution of the Lebanese American University, and was attended by delegations from Iraq, Egypt and Lebanon.
The meeting agenda included a speech by Dr. Joseph Jabra Head of the university in which he stressed the importance of changing the current perspective of differences based on division and contradiction to a perspective in which the differences become a magnet for the unity of a single state and Arab societies in general.
Dr. Emad Salami Head of the Institute for Social Justice and Conflict Resolution stressed that the aim of the meeting is to address the existing imbalance in Arab societies towards creating a starting unit for serving governance to support the aspirations of the peoples of the region leading to advanced principles of education, dialogue, elections, gender equality, refugee issues and the adoption of a database to serve the goals of progress in all fields.
Speaking at the meeting, the Lebanese MP Mrs. Bahia Hariri reviewed the changes taken place in her country in order to establish links and bridges of national relation between the various Lebanese components, pointing out the great difficulties faced by Lebanon amid the huge number of regional and international challenges surrounding Lebanon.
The meeting included a symposium managed by Dr. Emad Salami attended by Dr. Abbas Kathem from Iraq and Dr. Amal Hamada from Egypt. The Egyptian researcher focused on the issue of empowering women to obtain their rights,
Pointing to the importance of transforming the efforts in this regard from the issue of protecting the rights of women to the principle of forming an active women's force that contributes to the advancement of societies and their liberation from the underdevelopment and social customs which degrade women, adding that the problem is not in the number of women who take the scenes of influence, but in the mechanisms adopted so far for women activists in the women's society that they do not have the right mechanism in this regard, so there is a need for structural social work to correct the course.
In his speech Dr. Abbas Kathem a socio-political researcher with a margin of historical study, focused on the issue of philosophy of civil governance and how it should be through democratic means based on the importance of confidence first in the government and access to the vocabulary of the democratic spirit through electoral experiences, noting that the Iraqi society is now in the stage of democratic transition and it needs more efforts in order to be a democratic society and the acceptance of candidates according to voters convictions is not the same as choosing food items.
During the meeting extensive discussions took place, where the envoy of HHRO presented an editorial intervention to Dr. Emad Salami focused on what is missing in the countries of the Arab region of strategies for the development of these countries and the lack of accurate readings of what is happening in the Arab countries or in Regional and international levels, the prevailing imbalances in the understanding of democratic values with greater offset tendencies contrary to the requirements of construction, which should enhance the strength of diversity for good governance.
Mr. Adel Saad also pointed out that the Arab countries are full of shortages in the face of emergency situations of the Arab societies.
Dr. Emad Salami indicated that the next step after this meeting is to work on the establishment of an Arab forum of experts, opinion leaders to achieve the desired governance.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Mr. Adel Saad met number of participants and held bilateral talks on the Work requirements required in this regard, stressing the need for involving many experienced experts in the political cultural, social affairs and civil rights in a project of this kind.
