In the presence of a delegation from the Alliance of Iraqi Minorities Network (AIM), a training workshop was held for minority activists representing some countries in the Middle East and North Africa, namely Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco and other countries.
The workshop was held in Tunisia on 28,29, 30 of September and 1st of October 2018 under the auspices of The International Minorities Group (MRG), headquartered in London, with the participation of international trainers from the same organization. The delegation of the Alliance of Iraqi Minorities Network included Mr. William Warda, former head of the network and a member of the public relations committee and Mrs. Sooriya Al-Qaddo member of the Board of Directors of the Alliance network.
The invitation to participate in this activity was from the Norwegian Minority Network. Twenty human rights activists participated in the workshop. The topics discussed were focused on the campaigns of defenders in the face of human rights violations and how to address them through monitoring, follow-up, recording the consideration and work according to the trends that expose these violations and the necessary treatment to protect the civil identities. The workshop also discussed the contractual and non-contractual international instruments and mechanisms to be adopted in the submission of complaints, indicators of trends and instability and the negative impact on minorities while talking about the field cases that have occurred in this regard in a number of countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
Mr. Warda presented a comprehensive presentation on the Alliance of Iraqi Minorities Network and its experience in defending the rights of minorities and the advocacy campaigns, projects and programs carried out by this network to promote the rights of minorities in Iraq, as well as the challenges facing them and future prospects for the existence of minorities and the future of diversity in Iraq.
On the sidelines of the workshop, a meeting was held between the delegation of the Alliance of Iraqi Minorities Network and the director of the Norwegian Minority Network's programs to discuss the prospects of cooperation, coordination and partnership between the two networks in the framework of future programs that can be implemented on this path. The Director of the Norwegian Minority Network expressed full readiness to cooperate in the areas that ensure the rights of Iraqi minorities to protect their identities and safeguard from violations as a result of armed violence and terrorist crimes targeting their cultural, religious, ethnic and regional identities.
