Hammurabi Human Rights Organization followed up the case of the Iraqi citizen Basem Khashan, who imprisoned for seven years just for criticizing corruption in Muthanna province (Samawa), mentioning in a tweet on his (Facebook) page that negligence and shortening is clear while the governorate needs more effort and persistence to meet the rights of its inhabitants.
Hammurabi Human Rights Organization find that this judicial judgment is arbitrary against a citizen who expressed an opinion guaranteed by the Iraqi constitution, it calls upon the Supreme court to abolish this judgment and to release the citizen Basem, whose case has become a public opinion specially solidarity with him is not limited to citizens of the province, but Iraqis of different affiliation and areas along the map of Iraq, confirming that Iraqi public opinion exercised its political, national and moral powers to defend human rights.
Within this framework, a spokesman of Hammurabi human rights organization said that the issue of the citizen (Basem) refers to the fact that the province of Muthanna (Samawa) is one of the poorest provinces of Iraq where the unemployment rate is very high, as well as a significant lack of services to meet the demands of citizens there. The Ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation has included the province on the list of the most-needy provinces with continued shortage of agricultural water and the decline of agriculture. It is to be mention that Japan has provided aid to the province to promote public service and development.
