Hammurabi Human Rights Organization accomplished the second phase of the ninth workshop of the project to build capacity and enhance awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities on Saturday morning, 29 June 2024.
The agenda of the workshop included a welcoming speech presented by Mr. William Warda, Director of Public Relations and Media of Hammurabi Human Rights Organization reviewing the objectives and importance of the workshop as well as the necessity of raising awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities and to assist and support their families by providing their basic needs, explaining the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, and the pillars of the International Convention for Persons with Disabilities. of the year 2006, to protect their rights, dignity and offering them a decent living.
The workshop included a lecture by Dr. Kamal Mohammed Siddiq, Director of the Educational Rehabilitation Department at the Authority of Disabled and Special Needs, speaking about the recent amendments of the Law No. 38 of 2013 and the enactment of Law No. 11 of the year 2024 the amended on the Rights of People with Disabilities and Special Needs instead of the Welfare Law, providing a detailed explanation of the nature of the amendments, while Mr. Omar El Hafiz from the office of the Minister of Labor -Organization Department indicate the difference between the previous and the new law after amendment including rights that would support and provide needs of the families of people with disabilities.
The four hours workshop witnessed an interactive discussion and queries by participants answered by the lecturers clarifying the possible paths to follow up the rights of persons with disabilities and the support of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs for their rights.
The workshop concluded with a documentary film produced by Hammurabi Human Rights Organization on the rights of people with disabilities.
