After receiving support from wealthy donors, the Hammurabi Human Rights Organization distributed food baskets to poor and needy families in Baghdad during January 11 to 13, 2025. The distribution process, which lasted for three consecutive days, began last Saturday and ended on Monday evening, and included one hundred needy families below the poverty line, from all religious, sectarian and ethnic affiliations. The food basket included eleven food items and consisted of rice, lentils, beans, flour, sugar, pasta, vermicelli, tomato paste, tea, cooking oil and eggs. The activity came to support families with limited incomes in light of the increase in prices of commodities, their inability to purchase these, and Baghdad’s generally high living costs.
The Hammurabi team in charge of the distribution activity was able to reach families with weak economic conditions in different areas of Baghdad and collect data about them and their difficult living conditions. Mr. William Warda, the Hammurabi Organization’s Public Relations Manager and Program Supervisor, along with members of the Organization’s General Assembly Dr. Muhammad Kazim, Dr. Sayf ‘Adnan and Hakob Hayk, participated in implementing this relief program. The following volunteers also participated in the distribution: Yasin ‘Ali, Ruqayyah Ghafir, Haytham Majid, ‘Imad ‘Abd ‘Ali, and Hayat Gulla from Alqosh.
In a statement to the Nergal News Agency, Program Supervisor Mr. Warda expressed his thanks and appreciation to the donors who preferred to remain anonymous and all those who contributed to the distribution process in reaching poor and needy families in different areas of Baghdad.
